Time

Time has been such a wonderful and yet mysterious concept for me. It changes everything; it makes people become habituated to things that they were not used to, it gives them the chance to forget and sometimes forgive. Time may make you more comfortable with things you used to feel uncomfortable and sometimes vice versa. I can easily remember the first day at William and Mary. I was a total stranger. I knew very few people, and I was not familiar with the area at all. I was experiencing another transition in my life; a transition from my comfort zone to a new environment, and again time changed everything. Now it has been almost nine months, and things are not the way they used to be. Now I feel like I have a great social support at William and Mary, and this is all a matter of time.

A couple of weeks ago, I was working on a research project and I needed about 60 participants for the survey I was using for the study. First I felt really frustrated since getting enough participants seemed very challenging to me, even though it was not as challenging for other people who were working on their research, just because they had a larger social network. I started to ask for help using Facebook, and it just amazed me that I was able to get more than 100 participants within a week. I felt really supported and realized that my social support had been growing. I would not have been able to get that many participants had I been conducting the study last semester. This was again a matter of time.
